Goats

It was B.C. 1490 when instructions were given relative to the Day of Atonement. In particular the priest was to take “two goats for a sin-offering (Leviticus 16:5-10). “Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat.” One animal was killed for a sin-offering, but the other was used “to make atonement with, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.” Before being turned loose in the wild, Aaron placed his hands upon its head and uttered every sin that Israel had committed. This created ‘at-one-ment’ between God and his people. They accepted that Jehovah had rolled their sins ahead for another year. Atonement means “paid for.” This was a type of Jesus who bore our sins on the cross and carried them away, forever.

There were many kinds of animals, why choose goats?

Capra aegagrus hircus, is the scientific name for goats. They were domesticated from the wild goats of southwest Asia and Eastern Europe, and provided many profitable services: fiber, meat, dairy products, and skins. Golden Guernsey is the rare British dairy goat. Others are: Alpine, Mini-Oberhasli, Angora, Black Bengal, Pygmy, and Boer, the most common meat goat. One wonders what kind of goat was used by Rebecca whose skin felt like Esau’s body, and the meat tasted like venison?

Job said that “wild goats of the rocks” exist. (Job 39:1) The Biblical Archaeology Review, September/October 2012, told of a particular goat, “A Cretan wild goat, also known as the agrimi or kri-kri. The goat, with its distinctive long curving horns and powerful muscular frame, is a regular feature of Minoan art and often appears in wall paintings, pottery and various adornments, either alone or as the object of the hunt. In addition to being a prized game animal, the wild goat may have been ritually associated with the many Minoan shrines and holy places found atop Crete’s rugged mountains, the goat’s traditional habitat. Today, the wild goat is threatened and survives in limited numbers only in the remote White Mountains of western Crete.”

Ptah, the Egyptian god of magic was often depicted as a goat. This worship was primarily seen in the city of Mendes where they used the same goat image for “Ba” or Osiris. Today, it is known as the “goat of Mendes.” In 1966, occultist Avton LaVey founded the Church of Satan, using the Baphomet (goat worship) symbol as its national creed. Lady GaGa is always in the public eye for her occult outlandish behavior and odd attire. She has photos that associate her with the Baphomet symbol, and has incorporated the goat in many of her music videos. Another singer, Miley Cyrus, likewise uses the Baphomet symbol. Music, songs, and movies promote evil worship, in particular the goat. This is dangerous for the youth of America.

Matthew wrote in chapter 25 that after the second coming of Jesus, he would separate the sheep from the goats, placing sheep on his right and goats on his left. Right hand people obtained eternal life with Christ, but those on the left went into everlasting punishment. The choice is obvious; we will serve the Lord.
